Audience Member Idina Menzel made it big back in the 1990s as far as music is concerned She grew up in a theater background practicing singing gigs eventually becoming a solo artist doing different genres Her parents ended up separating not wanting Idina to work professionally and still have her education even if it turned her world upside down Going to NYU in Manhattan you could be free to be yourself and not attempt to fit in Idina went through a divorce while raising her son but found love again eventually Yet she slowly started making waves going bigger by going on Broadway in the musicals Rent and Wicked It wasn’t until ‘Enchanted’ back in 2007 she started a career in Hollywood then in 2013 she finally got her big break from Disney’s ‘Frozen’ playing Elsa the snow queen The single ‘Let It Go’ became a bonafide hit dominating the charts and she even got to Star next to Nia Long in the Beaches remake in 2017 Here we find Idina making her way to perform at Madison Square Garden in NYC in 2018; she’s been with her music crew for so long they’ve become family At this point she’s struggling to multitask her show, guest appearances, touring, and trying to take medical measures to be pregnant in her late 40s The staging for the show is is bigger thanks to Idina’s input although at times it feels pressuring she has to prove herself Universalness and specificness is what Idina loves about writing music yet she feels the music industry can pigeon hole you when you go versatile they don’t know how to market you and that can confuse people The documentary directed by Anne McCabe looks amazing, the staging of the performances look stellar, the archive footage shows this woman’s highs and lows of her career, and it’s a honest look into an artist’s rise to success You gotta take the highs and lows of life, sometimes you have to start over, making music that’ll give an experience to others not just yourself is important, stop making yourself feel smaller so others can feel satisfied, there’s a ferocity or power inside all of us we need to let out even if others see it as too much, versatility is risky at times Idina Menzel wants to be honest and real as possible making a connection and this tour has taught her to discover about herself Like her we all have our doubts, anxieties and fears even with fame This documentary has a level of intimacy and genuineness that’s rarely seen and that has to be appreciated Rated 4/5 Stars • Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/10/23 Full Review Avery R It was beautiful and Idina Menzel clearly shines through the shadows of publicity and fame pandemonium with fans and critics alike who are eager to see her in a more serious way than she is used to seeing her own fans! She is not a fantasy star but she is a real powerful and strong woman and the behind the scenes footage is a great example of how far she can go in her career and her life!
